I remember it like it was yesterday, in reality it was September 2005.

My cousin & I were in the communal dressing room at Loehmann's [who remembers that store?] looking for the perfect dress to wear to my best friend’s wedding.

I was peeling off a dress, that I really had no business trying on, when my cousin asked if I wanted to join her weight loss group.

I was so grateful that dress was stuck over my shoulders & covering my face so she couldn’t see how red, from anger & embarrassment, I was.

Weight loss group?! I hadn’t eaten a carb in over 4 weeks while also going to kick boxing class 5 times a week.

You mean I hadn’t slimmed down? I wasn’t skinnier than the last time she saw me?

The fact that I was gorging myself with ice cream, bacon, & cheese probably had something to do with it.

While I wouldn’t admit to myself, I knew it deep down that I was still eating way too much of the wrong foods.

I didn’t say much during the ride home.

I was thinking of all the time that had passed since I went on my 1st diet at 11 years old. Here I was 20 years later in the same exact place: overweight, spinning my wheels trying diet after diet after diet.

Right then & there I promised myself that I was done with dieting & quick fixes.

I committed to putting in the work to make lifelong changes.

Over the next year I graduated from Institute for Integrative Nutrition & The American Academy of Personal Training, both in NYC. I had graduated from the New York Restaurant School the year before, which was a big contributor to my excess weight.

During the next 6 months I lost the weight & reinvented my relationship with food to a healthy, functional one that left me feeling energized & nourished.

Here we are 16 years later & I have been able to keep the weight off by living a healthy lifestyle that I was able to create in a realistic & sustainable way.

This journey hasn’t been without its challenges, but the difference now is that challenges don’t derail all the progress I have made.

Putting in the time, work, & money to develop the mindset, tool set & skill set to transform my life to a healthy one was the best decision & investment I have ever made.

What lights me up & fuels me now is helping other women who are sick & tired of dieting & are ready to put in the work to create real change in their lives.
